CBOE Put/Call Ratio

CBOE 는 Chicago Board Option Exchange 라고 옵션 거래를 관장하는 거래소 입니다. CBOE 에서 옵션 거래 정보를 제공하는데 이 정보를 통해서 마켓의 동향을 어느 정도 파악할 수 있습니다.

일단 첫 번째로 put 옵션과 call 옵션을 간단하게 put 옵션은 하방에 베팅 하는거(bearish)라 생각하시고 call 옵션은 상방에 베팅한다고(bullish) 생각하세요. 따라서 PUT / CALL RATIO 가 1 보다 높으면 put 옵션 거래량이 call 옵션 거래량 보다 많고, 1 보다 낮으면 call 옵션 거래량이 put 옵션 거래량 보다 많다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. P/C Ratio 가 증가하면 put 옵션거래가 많아진다는 의미로 bearish 반대로 감소하면 put 옵션거래가 작아진다는 의미로 bullish.

두번째로 옵션을 거래하는 기초자산이 개별주식인지 S&P 또는 Nadaq 같은 지수인지에 따라 CBOE 에서 구분해 놨습니다. Index P/C Ratio 는 지수에 대한 put 옵션 / call 옵션 거래량이고 Equity P/C Ratio 는 개별 주식에 대한 put 옵션 / call 옵션 거래량입니다. Total P/C Ratio 는 CBOE 서 관장하는 Index PCR, Equity PCR 등등을 합한 모든 put 옵션 / call 옵션 거래량입니다.

기관이나 큰 손들(마켓 메이커)은 지수에 대한 put 옵션을 사용하여 헷징을 대부분 한다고 합니다. 이런 이유로 지수 put 옵션 거래량은 상대적으로 많고 Index P/C Ratio 는 보통 1보다 큰 값이고 Equity P/C Ratio 하고 Total P/C Ratio 는 1보다 작습니다.

P/C Ratio 가 증가한다는 것은 하방 방어를 위해 put 옵션 거래가 증가한다는 의미이며 특히 Index P/C Ratio 증가는 기관이나 큰손들이 적극적으로 하방 헷징을 하고 있다는 의미입니다. 

요새는 로빈후드를 통해서 유입된 젋은 투자자 들이 무분별하게 옵션 거래하는 경향이 커서 Total P/C Ratio 가 조금 잘 맞지 않는다고 하지만 그래도 Index P/C Ratio 는 항상 모니터링하는게 좋다고 합니다.

계속 확인해 봐야겠지만 최근 계속적으로 Index P/C Ratio 를 S&P500 에 비교하면서 모니터링해본 결과 Index P/C Ratio 가 하루 또는 이틀 정도 S&P500 에 선행하는 지표 역할을 하는 경우가 많음을 확인 할 수 있었습니다. 특히 Index P/C Ratio 가 2 를 넘어가면 옵션 시장에서 하루 이틀 뒤에 발생할 예정인 이벤트에 대비하여 증가한 경우가 많습니다.
